Step 1: Placement
Proper Placement Leads to Academic Success
Identifying the right Verticy Learning level for your child is easy! There are two ways:
- Self-select your child's course using our Course Configurator, OR
- Receive a free placement recommendation from our Placement Specialists
The Verticy Learning Course Configurator
You know your child better than anyone. Using the Course Configurator, you can select the appropriate level of instruction in four critical areas: Core, Math, Grammar/Composition, and Phonics/Spelling. You can review the content of each level in order to make the right choice for your student.
Free Placement Recommendation
If you are unsure which levels of the Verticy curriculum would be the best fit for your child, Verticy Learning offers a free placement evaluation. Our professional Placement Specialists design a personal course configuration for your child based on his or her academic skills. At the completion of the online and written evaluation, the Placement Specialist will discuss with you the curriculum recommendation for your student.
The placement evaluation is appropriate whether you are enrolling your child in our Complete Curriculum, or in our supplemental programs, Verticy Reading. If you are enrolling in Verticy Math, your child should only complete the offline portion of the placement evaluation.
There are two parts to the placement assessment:
Part 1: The Online Portion
First , your student will complete the online portion of the placement assessment. This assessment is not timed, but it will take your student 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Please make sure that you have a set of working headphones or speakers before you begin.

Part 2: The Offline (written) Portion
After completing and submitting the online portion, download and print the offline (written) portion. Have your student complete as much as he or she is able of each section of the evaluation. The test material will progressively become more difficult within each section. Students should understand that they are not expected to complete each section, as they contain material that evaluates skills up through the highest Verticy Learning level. Submission guidelines are on the evaluation. Please note: you will need Adobe PDF Viewer to view the written portion of the placement assessment.
After your student completes this portion of the evaluation and returns it to Verticy Learning, a Placement Specialist will contact you with a personalized course configuration for your child.
Important Note
The Verticy Learning online assessment and placement evaluation are not qualified instruments to diagnose dyslexia or any other language-based learning disability. They are solely intended to assess students for enrollment with Verticy Learning.
