The Verticy Learning Academy Program

 

Students who experience reading or writing difficulties, or who have been diagnosed with a language-based learning disability, have a fundamental disconnection between letters and the sounds that each letter makes. This disconnection disrupts the essential building blocks of language for these students. As a result, the student's reading and writing challenges affect every aspect of his or her academic experience.

 

Verticy Learning Academy presents a comprehensive educational program that addresses the specific Language Arts needs of these students while keeping them on academic pace with their peers in all subject areas. Verticy encourages your child to discover new ways of learning the foundations of reading and writing through specialized curriculum, innovative teaching techniques, and computer-based learning tools. This discovery leads to a more empowered student who is able to achieve academic success and recapture the wonder of independent learning.

Specialized Curriculum

  • Provides flexible pacing and concentration in Phonics/Spelling and Grammar/Composition
  • Emphasizes visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic teaching styles, offering your student a multi-sensory approach to learning
  • Teaching and learning strategies incorporate the time-tested Orton-Gillingham method of multi-sensory learning
  • Individualized course configuration allows students to begin at their current level in each subject, move more quickly in areas of strength, and to focus more attention on subjects or lessons requiring additional review or remediation.

 

Instructional Support

  • The Verticy Learning Lesson Manual, an easy-to-use teaching guide that provides a detailed outline for every lesson, including a list of materials, step-by-step instructions, and a summary of assignments. The Lesson Manual is the key ingredient for successful home implementation.
  • Additional support provided by Educational Counselors and LLD Specialists, experienced teachers who can answer any questions a family may have about the Verticy Learning Academy curriculum and the student's development.
  • Optional Advisory Teaching Service (ATS) with Read-Aloud ATS

  • Verticy Live Tutor - Verticy Learning students have the option of meeting with a Verticy Live Tutor in 30 minute increments for personal, one-on-one, interactive tutoring sessions.

 

Computer-Based Resources

  • Kidspiration ® - Students create original compositions by building graphic organizers by combining pictures, text and spoken words to represent thoughts and information.
  • Inspiration ® - Students plan, research and complete projects successfully utilizing graphic organizers, diagrams and outline views.
  • BookShare - Literature selections included in the students Verticy curriculum are available in an auditory format so the student can follow the story while having the novel read aloud to them.
  • Reading a-z - An online guided reading program with downloadable books to print and assemble.
  • Raz-Kids - An online resource where students can listen for modeled fluency, read for practice, record their readings and check comprehension with quizzes all within an interactive book room of original stories.
  • Aha! Math - A web-delivered, supplemental math curriculum that supports your student's core math instruction. Aha! Math uses rich, multisensory game-based activities to improve learning.
  • Computer Skills and Applications Lesson Manual - Powered by Learning.com, these lessons help children develop skills in word-processing, creating spreadsheets and presentations, HTML basics, desktop publishing, and Web research.
  • Kurzweil (optional) - A comprehensive reading, writing, and learning software program permits its user to access virtually any information, whether it is printed, electronic, or on the Web.
